Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob today stressed that there were no double standards in the conviction of Deputy Health Minister Noor Azmi Ghazali and Perak exco member Razman Zakaria who were fined RM1,000 for violating the Prevention and Control of Infectious Disease (Measures Within Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020.

Ismail explained that the duo did not violate the MCO but had instead breached the standard operating procedure (SOP) governing movements during the MCO, such as practising social distancing.

He said this is because the government had already announced that elected representatives can move around to assist the people during the MCO, subject to rules and regulations.

#KiniNews: Those who rushed to hometowns are now complaining, says minister

The public has been urged to inform the authorities of their domestic travel needs in order for the government to design safe procedures for them to do so.

At a press conference today, Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said to register an interest in travelling, the public can use the Gerak Malaysia smartphone application.

He said the data collected would allow the authorities to design standard operating procedures and rules for travel. He stressed that any final decision would only be made by the National Security Council (NSC) on the advice of the Health Ministry.

"There are a lot of complaints about people running out of clothes in their villages. Some have concerns and wish to return to their homes near their place of work," he said.

Ismail said that the Gerak Malaysia application is a collaboration between the police and the Health Ministry, and registrations will begin on April 25.
